Build a Better MOUSE Trap

Probably you've heard the saying if you build a better MOUSE trap, the world will beat a path to your door. I guess many people took that seriously as nowadays there are thousands of MOUSE traps. One of the most commonly used traps is that shown in the children's cartoons in the last 50 years. Not only is it the most effective MOUSE trap but it also is very simple. It consists of a piece of wood with a heavy spring device which slams down the MOUSE if it tries to get the food put in it.

As we are living in the high tech 21st century, there are many people working on a better MOUSE trap. They want to create something not that simple. There is one great problem with any MOUSE trap - this is how to get the MOUSE into the trap. Cheese is considered to be the best bait. Another food that mice love is peanut butter. If not using the first two, then try with rice and some fish.

Having set up the bait, the MOUSE gets into the simple spring MOUSE trap and gets killed the same time. End of story. Of course, there are many people who are not willing to kill these friendly, but annoying mice. They can use a MOUSE trap designed as a MOUSE jail instead of the common spring MOUSE trap. When the MOUSE gets trapped, it doesn't get killed but it cannot escape either. When using such MOUSE trap mazes you have to take care of the MOUSE once it's caught. Some of these MOUSE tunnels are made of clear plastic, so they are see-through and you can watch what your MOUSE is doing in the trap. Once I came across a MOUSE trap that could hold up to 30 mice! Amazing, isn’t it!

I'm sorry that the directions offered don’t say what to do after you've caught the MOUSE in the trap. Should you let it go in the open? There is no doubt that you don't want to release it as you'll have to catch it again. There are some modern models of MOUSE traps that involve the use of electricity. Some of them give the MOUSE a lethal shock while others use batteries to automatically close the door after the MOUSE goes into the trap. I know one more type of MOUSE trap.

I like that one a lot because it has many advantages. It is simple, cheap and highly effective. The only disadvantage of this model is that it is a bit dirty. All you have to do is purchase a few sheets of fly catcher. Before going to bed put one or two of these sticky sheets of paper somewhere in your kitchen. And don't forget to leave some bait in the middle of the sheet. You can be sure that the MOUSE will fall into your trap and will stick. Then when you find it the next morning, simply fold the flypaper and throw it away.

The Maremma: Alpine Sheep Herder

The Maremma SheepDOG is native to the Italian Alps. This is a breed that has an extraordinary capability of working in the higher altitudes. For many hundreds of years, the life of the sheep, the shepherds and the Maremma DOG that guarded the flock was structured on the seasons. From June to October the flocks would be moved to the high country in the mountains of Abruzzi and from October to June they would go down to the plains and rolling pastures of Maremma. The job of the Maremma historically has been that of a livestock protector and herding DOG, being of great value to the Italian peasants as they moved their flocks of mountain goats and sheep through the high alpine pastures, not only herding but also protecting the flock from predators. The Maremma has the capability of working independently as a flock protector and is noted for its high intelligence. A few of the DOGs stayed behind as farm protectors and gradually the Maremma also became known as the large white DOG who frequented the fine homes of Tuscany as a companion and watchDOG.

The Maremma is a large white DOG with profuse and abundant coat. One might confuse the DOG with the Pyrenees or the Kuvasz, excerpt that the head of the Maremma is much larger in proportion to the body and in fact is very like that of the Polar bear, conical in shape and massive. In general, of the large white DOGs that are the herding DOGs of central Europe and the Alps, the Maremma is probably the breed that exhibits the most independent thinking and is one of the DOGs considered to be a very protective DOG, working in the dual role as flock guard and herder. The Maremma is a large breed, standing 24 inches at the withers, with a heavy coat that is all white with perhaps a shade of ivory or biscuit on the ears. The coat needs to be regularly groomed. The correct coat should be weather resistant, providing protection from the sun and the cold, this is a DOG that should not be shaved.

The Maremma has always been around people, though its existence has been solitary it is a breed that will not do well without a human to protect or work alongside. This is a DOG that strives to work for its master but also can be a difficult DOG for simple obedience commands, since it is a "thinker" and will become bored with repetition. They are extremely loyal, considered to be a one person DOG, devoted and protective yet proud and dignified. This is a DOG that requires a knowledgeable owner, since it is not inclined to be subservient but is more likely to be somewhat stubborn and strong willed.

Choosing The Right CAT or Kitten For You

So many benefits can be obtained from choosing the right CAT or kitten, but it can be a difficult choice. So they may experience the pleasures of growth, many people choose to adopt a kitten. Others will choose an adult CAT, because they do not have the tolerance, patience and energy to deal with the training involved with owning a kitten, i.e. litter training, furniture climbing and the curious nature of all kittens. Also, since adult CATs are less likely to be adopted than their cuter counter-parts, some people will choose a CAT instead. There are definitely pros and cons regarding both.

The advantages of a kitten, is that you get to have the pleasure of watching them grow and mature. Kittens have quite an amusing curiosity. The bonds formed when a kitten is young, can be quite strong. The kitten's medical history is known somewhat by you, since the kitten has been in your presence for the most part. You get to have the pleasure to enjoy more years with them. You know their age. Kittens tend to adjust better with other pets that you may already have.

The advantages of a CAT, is that they are already litter trained, a huge plus. Adult CATs are calmer and they are less likely to destroy your favorite sofa and curtains. CATs may already be spayed or neutered. They can be left alone without too much stress and since they probably already know the outside dangers of the home, they are less likely to get into trouble. The biggest advantage to adopting a CAT is that you're probably saving a life.

When trying to decide between a long- or short-haired CAT, keep in mind the grooming that a long-haired CAT requires. Though they may be quite beautiful, they can not keep up with their own coats and you'll need to groom them daily. A semi-longhaired CAT also needs to be groomed, but probably only a few times a week. So, you're best bet, to keep from doing all that grooming is to choose a short-haired CAT.

If choosing the sex of a CAT comes into question, always remember to choose a CAT of the opposite sex if you already have a CAT, this will limit sexual competition. Also remember, if you have CATs of the opposite sex, make sure you have them spayed or neutered.

Depending on if you want one CAT or kitten or more, there are advantages and disadvantages in that area as well.

Advantages consist of the kittens having each other for company; so of course, they may not require as much attention from you. The interaction between kittens can be quite amusing. If you decide to get another CAT down the road, introducing them to the other CATs will be less compliCATed.

Disadvantages with multiple CATs or kittens, is the amount of trouble they can get into together. The cost of owning multiple CATs is more. The care and grooming is multiplied. If one of the CATs happens to pass away, it can greatly affect the others. Think thoroughly about which CAT or kitten may be the right choice for you. After you obtain your feline companion, you'll have many years to enjoy together.
